Strange are the ways of nature when it comes to plant propagation. While some plants multiply through seeds, there are some that increase their progeny by cuttings and through bulbs/tubers. Many have suckers that spring from the ground sometimes too many that gardeners are forced to discard them. The cacti have their unique way. The leaves produce baby plants which could be snapped and planted separately. Some plants use more than one method. They could be multiplied through seeds, cuttings and they even get suckers. I have this white Ixora that belongs to this category. Air layering is yet another way. Some plants demand very little attention. They even root when placed in water which are later planted. Coleus that can be easily multiplied through cuttings have another strange way.
The leaf is cut into several pieces and these pieces are placed in soil or even water and in a few days tiny plants emerge!!!
Those who have experience with rose budding would have their own story to tell. The sacrifice of the Briar rose which is used for this procedure cannot be ignored.
Then we have the grafting to create new varieties and hybrids.
I have no interest nor am I in favour of genetic engineering and so I prefer to ignore it.
But nothing like what I have witnessed in my garden. The Euphorbia and another plant which belongs to the ginger family produce plants through flowers right on the plant, besides their other normal ways.
I have many plants and I water and take care of them daily.I want to make a whole garden.I love reading about plants
