Sirens were women from their heads to their navels, and instead of legs they had fish tails. They are known to be dangerous creatures who lures nearby sailors with their enchanting music and singing voices.
When I was young, I am one of the avid fan of my father's myth and ghost stories. He never get tired to tell his stories and we never get bored of them, he narrates them with action and sound effect. One time he decided to tell us about the story about his encounter with a siren.
This is how the story goes, my father is at his young adult days when that happen he went to Mindanao that time if I remember it correctly. There he worked as a security guard on one of the establishment, one time together with his colleague they have agreed to go on a nearby river where they enjoyed their leisure time. He saw a colorful fish, he's magnetized by the beauty of it. He tried to catch it but the fish is to fast to be catch it was like it's trying to lure my father to the deepest part of the river which he didn't notice as he is focused on catching it until his colleague saw him and in his panicked, he shouted his lungs out until my father is back to his senses and realized he is near the deeper part of the river and rushed back to the land.
After my father got out on the water they heard a loud and angry sound from the part where my father came back from his senses and immediately went home. On their way home his colleague told him the story about the beautiful fish who lures people by letting them catch her and said that he is also one of its victim but luckily he was saved.
After what happened to them, they heard that people discovered a huge hole on that same river and divers tried to see the bottom of it but failed as it was too deep for them to dive it.

Luh, kakasulat ko lang po ng trip ko sa river ng Agoo tapos nakarelate ako dyan sa creepy feeling na yan. Though wala akong naencounter na magandang isda pero creepy. The more I thought of it, the more na nacreepyhan ako wahaha.
