History
This commemorative coin was issued in conjunction with World Team Table Tennis Tournament 2016 was sold on 29th February 2016 at Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery (Sasana Kijang), the regional office of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching as well as at branches Kuala Terengganu.
The 2016 World Ping Pong Tournament was held in Kuala Lumpur from Feb 28 to March 6, 2016 at Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam. The tournament was organized by the Malaysian Ping Pong Association (TTAM) with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia and Malaysia Major Events. This is Malaysia's second time hosting the World Team Ping Pong Championship (WTTC), the first time in 2000.
At the front of the coin feature the service action for a table tennis game is depicted in the centre of the coin. For the coloured silver coins, the image of the table tennis bat is in red and the ball is in yellow. The words “WORLD TEAM” appear on the upper circumference of the coin while the words “TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016” are inscribed on the lower circumference.
At the back of the coin feature, the words “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” as the issuing authority of the commemorative coin is featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is inscribed on the lower circumference. The event logo in conjunction with the World Team Table Tennis Championships 2016 is featured on the centre of the coin.
