On April 16, the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Seri Dr. Salleh Said Keruak launched the commemorative Coin in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of RTM in Angkasapuri. 2 types of coins issued by Bank Negara Malaysia; RM10 Silver color (proof) and RM1 Nordic Gold.
The coins were sold on April 25, 2016, at the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery, the regional office of Bank Negara Malaysia in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching and Kuala Terengganu branches.
RTM was the first Malaysian broadcaster to launch a radio broadcast on April 1, 1946, and a television broadcast on December 28, 1963.
At the front of the coin in the center of the coin shows the iconic image of RTM’s headquarters, Angkasapuri. The building features a unique facade decorated with a motif based on the shape of the tongue. The words RADIO TELEVISYEN MALAYSIA are on the upper circumference and the years 1946 – 2016 denoting 70 years of anniversary are inscribed below the words.
At the back of the coin, The words BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA as the issuing authority of the commemorative coin is featured on the upper circumference of the coin, while the face value of the coin is inscribed on the lower circumference. The event logo for the 70th Anniversary of Radio Televisyen Malaysia is featured on the centre of the coin.
This coin is the design of Tuan Mohd Ubaidillah Daud.
