On September 16, 2013, Bank Negara Malaysia issued a commemorative coin in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of Malaysia's Establishment. 50th Malaysia Day Coins is issued in the form; RM1 Nordic Gold, RM10 Silver 999, and RM100 gold 999.9. For the first time, BNM issued colored silver coins.
The coins were sold on September 17, 2013, at the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery at Sasana Kijang, Kuala Lumpur, and regional offices in Penang and Johor Bahru and branches in Kuala Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching.
The front of the commemorative coin displays the colored Jalur Gemilang image in its center. The word "FIGURE DAY OF MALAYSIA" and "50 Years" is displayed at the top of the coin while the word "16 SEPTEMBER 1963-2013" is displayed at the bottom of the coin.
The back of this commemorative coin displays the image of the National Coat of arm and Malaysia map. The word "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA", the issuing authority of the commemorative coin is displayed at the top of the coin while the face value of the coin is on the bottom.
