On July 3, 2009, Bank Negara Malaysia issued three types of commemorative coins in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Parliament of Malaysia. The coin was launched by the President of the Senate, Tan Sri Dr. Abdul Hamid Pawanteh at the parliament building, Kuala Lumpur.

The back of the coin displays the coat of arms (symbol of greatness) of Malaysia and A revered regalia, the mace symbolizes the authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Parliament. The words of Bank Negara Malaysia and the respective face value of the coin are shown at the top and bottom.

The front of the coin displays the Parliament building with 1959-2009 listed below. On the side of the coin, there is a symbol of the moon with the word 50th Anniversary of the Malaysian Parliament listed therein. At the top right of the coin, there is a 14 point-star that symbolizes 14 states in Malaysia including the Federal Territory.

The coins were sold on 4 July 2009 at Bank Negara Malaysia's headquarters and its branches in Penang, Johor Baharu, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching.
