On 9 November 2006, Bank Negara Malaysia issued three types of commemorative coins in conjunction with the golden jubilee of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM); RM100 Gold Proof, RM10 Silver Proof, and Nordic Gold RM1. These issue of commemorative coin is to appreciate the important roles and contributions of UiTM to produce graduates in business, and science and technology. Over the past 50 years, UiTM graduates have contributed to the development of various industries in the rapidly developing Malaysian economy.

The back design features the official logo of the UiTM gold jubilee with the words "JUBLI EMAS UiTM 2006" at the top. Seven beads on the right and left side represent 14 UiTM branch campuses throughout Malaysia. The word "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" and the face value of the coin are displayed at the bottom of the coin.

The design of the front of the coin displays the official symbol of UiTM
as the main motive in the middle. The word "Universiti Teknologi Mara" is engraved in the Roman script at the top and nasakh khat writing at the bottom of the coin.

It was designed by Master Designer of Royal Mint of Malaysia, Ismail Ibrahim.
