On 2 May 2000, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), in collaboration with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), issued the Thomas / Uber Cup commemorative coin in conjunction with the championship held in Malaysia on 11-21 May 2000. The coin was launched by Datin Seri Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Patron of the Badminton Association of Malaysia.

3 types of commemorative coins have been issued; RM1-bimetal, RM10-Silver, and RM100-Gold. The coins were minted by Mariwasa Kraftangan headquartered in Kuala Lumpur but had a factory in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. Established since 1975, Mariwasa has over 30 years of experience in the local handicraft field.

On the front of the coin is the Thomas Cup in the center of the coin in the backdrop of badminton (shuttlecock). At the top is written KUALA LUMPUR 2000 and under THOMAS UBER PIALA.

On the back, the value of the coin is centered on the background of famous buildings in Malaysia. The word RINGGIT is written at the top in roman and jawi writing below. Near the RINGGIT jawi text, it contains BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA. In the left Division, there is the logo of Bank Negara Malaysia. At the back of the coin depict the face value of the coin with a combination of old and modern architecture in the background. The Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Malayan Railway Building represent the old architecture while the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower represent modern architecture.

These two gold and silver commemorative coins come with a round-shaped pewter-shaped casing with a diameter of 70mm and 85mm respectively, carved with a cobblestone motif. The floral motifs are widely used in Malaysian timber carvings in the state of Perak. In 2000, this coin can be purchased at the following banks:
