On 15 December 1990, Bank Negara Malaysia issued two types of legal tender commemorative coins in conjunction with the 100 Years of Kuala Lumpur as a Local Authority. The 100-year-old Kuala Lumpur as a Local Authority commemorative coins are issued in the form of sterling silver metal with a purity of 0.925 (92.5%) that come in 2 types proof and non-proof and zinc-coated copper metal in the form of brilliant uncirculated(BU).

The front design of the coin displays the new and old Kuala Lumpur City Hall building with the official Kuala Lumpur flag background. The word "PENGUASA TEMPATAN TAHUN 100", appears on the top of the coin between the words "KUALA LUMPUR" and "1890-1990" is displayed on the bottom of the coin.

The back of the coin is decorated with the official logo of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall with 14 parallel straight lines on the bottom of the bottom half of the coins and the word "MALAYSIA".
