On December 27, 1989, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) launched the RM10 Melaka as Historic City Silver Commemorative Coin. The coins were made using sterling silver with a purity of .925 (92.5%) of silver. The coins are also legal tender in Malaysia and only issued as much as 20,000 pieces.
The design of the front page of the coin features a cow car motive with the word "MELAKA BANDARAYA BERSEJARAH" and the year "1989" around it.
The back cover design, featuring 5 jade flowers in the left and right flanking the state of Melaka in the middle. At the top is the word "MALAYSIA" and the value of the "10 RINGGIT" coin is shown on the bottom of the coin.
The commemorative coins are mint by Kilang Wang Bank Negara Malaysia.
