On April 9, 1986, Bank Negara Malaysia issued a commemorative coin in conjunction with the PATA's 35th Annual Conference (Pacific Asia Travel Association). Two types of coins were issued: The Silver Commemorative Coin set that contain RM5 silver coins and RM1 silver coins and an RM1 copper-nickel set. Malaysia hosted the 35th Annual Conference of the PATA from 9 to 16 April 1986. Both types of commemorative coins were legal tender.
The front design features a turtle, the official logo of the 35th conference in the middle of the coin, and the conference date "APRIL 9-16 1986" is at the bottom. The word "35th ANNUAL CONFERENCE" is at the top of the coin.
The back design is decorated with the word "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" placed on the side of the coin, the face value is placed at the center of the coin while the three bouquets design is place at the bottom of the coin.
This coin has been mint by the Singapore Mint.
