On August 31, 1982, Bank Negara Malaysia issue 3 commemorative coins in conjunction with the 25th Merdeka mean 25th Independence anniversary in Malay. The 25th Merdeka coin was minted by Royal Mint, the United Kingdom in the form of proof coins and also non-proof coins.
3 coin denominations were issued in the form of 500 Ringgit gold coin, 25 Ringgit silver coin and 1 Ringgit Copper-Nickel coin
At the front of all the coin shows the image of the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj chanting Merdeka by raising the keris and towering keris with the background of the moon and stars from the Malaysian flag. The words "TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN PUTRA" and "MALAYSIA" surround the image.
The rear section displays in the middle is the Coat of Arms of Malaysia with the words "25 YEARS MERDEKA 1957-1982" at the top and the value of the coin at the bottom.
