Today after church, my friends and I visited a restaurant called FattyKampua Sarawakian House in the Medan Niaga Rampai area to have lunch—this restaurant is known for its Sarawakian food.

After looking at their menu, I ordered the Manicai fried mee hoon for RM11.90. Manicai also known as katuk, star gooseberry, or sweet leaf, is a shrub grown in some tropical regions as a leaf vegetable. In Malaysia, it only appears in Sarawak cooking, it seldom appears in Malaya Penisular cooking.

I read some blogs that claim Manicai is a good source of vitamin K, provitamin A carotenoids, vitamins B, and C, protein and minerals. However, excessive consumption of the juiced leaves (which is popular for weight loss) can cause lung damage, due to its high concentrations of the alkaloid papaverine.

Overall, the meal is great for me. I highly recommend this place if you want to try authentic Sarawak dishes.
