Recently a lot of Malaysian are posting about them eating or selling durian on social media. Durian is such a hot topic that it even makes it to the news media like the one at Raub recently. So I sacrifice my usual meal to have durian for lunch instead.
So I decided to visit the fruit stall that sells durian at the roundabout in the Desa Setapak area.
This stall selling all the durian at RM25 per kg which is considered cheap due to the current market situation. the price used to be higher but because of lockdown the price drop.
The seller recommends this durian call Udang Merah means red prawn in English. This batch of red prawn durians are from Johor.
Red Prawn durians are known for their creamy, sticky, smooth, and fibreless flesh, encasing small to medium-sized seeds. The flesh has a sweet, fruity, and subtly bitter, fermented taste with red wine, berry, and chocolate-like nuances.
The durian after weighting, the price is actually rm21 but the seller decided to only sell it for RM20 to me.
Here are pictures of my Durian udang merah when I eat at home.
