For today's breakfast, I buy an interesting cake from Chateraise when I am at the KLCC Suria Mall. It is called longevity ring selling at RM6.90 per pack.
longevity ring is actually a Baumkuchen which means tree cake in germen, a kind of spit cake from German cuisine. It is also a popular dessert in Japan. The characteristic rings that appear when sliced resemble tree rings.
Based on what I read, it was first introduced to Japan by the German Karl Joseph Wilhelm Juchheim. Juchheim was in the Chinese city of Tsingtao during World War I and when the war ended the Japanese Army moved him and his wife to Japan. Juchheim started making and selling the traditional confection at a German exhibition in Hiroshima in 1919. From then on, it became very popular in Japan.
In Japan, the longevity ring means "long-lasting rapport", "manifold happiness" and "good health and longevity".
I have it with coffee for my breakfast.
Good idea .thanks
