Axis lounge beef rendang pizza
Today is Malaysia's 67th Merdeka anniversary, so many restaurants are packed with people. After thinking hard about where to eat, I decided to eat at Axis Lounge inside DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur. The place is quiet and comfortable.
After looking at the menu, I order one Beef Rendang Pizza that cost RM32. The pizza topping is just beef rendang and mozzarella cheese.
For those who don't know what Pizza is, it is a dish of Italian origin consisting of a usually round, flattened base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and often various other ingredients (such as anchovies, mushrooms, onions, olives, pineapple, meat, etc.). The pizza is then baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven.
As for Rendang, it is a Minang dish originating from the Minangkabau region in West Sumatra, Indonesia. It has spread across Indonesian cuisine to the cuisines of neighbouring Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines. Rendang is often described as a rich dish of meat, most commonly used meat is beef that has been slow-cooked and braised in coconut milk seasoned with a herb and spice mixture until the liquids evaporate and the meat turns dark brown and tender, becoming caramelized and infused with rich flavors.
Beef Rendang Pizza is a fusion dish of Italian and Malaysian culinary traditions.
