On August 30, 1971, Bank Negara Malaysia launched the Commemorative Coins in conjunction with Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj 13 years of being the Prime Minister of Malaysia. The Tunku Abdul Rahman commemorative coins were issued with a denomination of 100 Ringgit and 5 Ringgit.
The coins are sold at branches of Bank Negara Malaysia and commercial banks nationwide. The copper-nickel coin is the largest in the history of Malaysia's copper-nickel coin with a diameter of 38mm.
On the front part of the coin shows the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tunku Abdul Rahman, wrote the TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN PUTRA AL-HAJ BAPA MALAYSIA around it and the coin was minted in 1971.
On the back of the coin shows a parliamentary building in Kuala Lumpur, as a symbol of Malaysian democracy. The crescent moon and the 14-pointed star are taken from the Malaysian flag, symbolizing Malaysia as an Islamic state and 14 federal states and territories in Malaysia.
