Among the cancer patients in Bangladesh, 7.9% of the patients get oral cancer every year and 8.9% of the patients die from this disease. In this age of scientific and technological advancement, there are many opportunities to diagnose and cure this disease quickly, but it is natural for people to be a little scared of cancer. However, we need to keep in mind that if any symptoms of oral cancer appear, it is not impossible to cure it completely without delay.

Let's find out what are the reasons for the increased risk of oral cancer?

1) Tobacco or any tobacco product (such as bidi, cigarettes, white leaves, roses, hookah, cigars, khaini, etc.) and drink with jorda, betel nut, lime.

2) Excessive alcohol consumption.

3) sharp or curved teeth; Continuous injury to any part of the mouth by defective dentures, fillings, artificial crowns, bridges or appliances.

4) Direct exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays (increases the risk of lip cancer).

5) Human papilloma virus infection.

6) Having a hereditary history.

6) Low immunity.

6) Deficiency of antioxidants (vitamins A, C, E) in the diet.

What are the symptoms of oral cancer?

1) Long-term abnormal swelling / bleeding wounds in the mouth.

2) Long-term staining of white or red color, which does not fade easily.

3) Any stain of unusual color which is suddenly increasing in size.

4) Feeling pain in the mouth, jaw or around it.

5) Swelling of the gums and bleeding from it.

6) Burning in any part of the mouth, feeling like stinging.

6) Loss of consciousness in or around the mouth.

6) Loose teeth without any visible cause.

9) The presence of a wheel or lump in the mouth, face, neck or neck.

10. Not being able to move the jaw or tongue normally or feeling pain.

11) Appearance of asymmetry and it continues to grow.

12) Something seems to be stuck in the throat. Difficulty talking, chewing and swallowing food.

13. Change of voice.

14. Bad breath.

15) Sudden weight loss.

Thick spots may have some of these symptoms in oral cancer. However, when these symptoms appear, it is not certain that it has become cancer, but we also get such symptoms in other diseases.

So there is no chance to ignore the symptoms. Because we know that the sooner any disease is diagnosed and the right treatment is started, the better the outcome can be expected. Not getting an annual dental checkup, not having regular self-screening (seeing for yourself if there are any abnormalities in the mouth), wasting time using all sorts of treatments (!) And tips without seeing a registered doctor if there are problems with the mouth - all these causes cancer. Spread even more!

So don't panic if any symptoms appear. A registered dental surgeon with a minimum BDS degree should be shown without delay. He is the one who can check the symptoms, diagnose the cause and give us the right direction to take immediate medical action.
