Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series.

Genesis 36:14-19

source

This is the second of three posts where we read through the names of the wives and children of Esau (Edom). I read through all of the names and compared them to the English words written below the Hebrew. They all match our known pronunciation!

These three posts would be a great place to start for people who are first starting to learn Hebrew. With these passages, one could read and confirm their pronunciation as well as practicing the right letter/vowel order and sounds as one goes through it. If you are learning Hebrew, you will see how valuable this is.

Besides those reasons, the history and genealogy of the blood lines needed to be tracked to find out who is of what line for the purpose of rights and ruling class placement over time.

Today's reading

English

These are the sons of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau's wife: she bore to Esau Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

These are the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz the first-born of Esau: the chiefs Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, Korah, Gatam, and Amalek; these are the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah.

These are the sons of Reuel, Esau's son: the chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah; these are the chiefs of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Basemath, Esau's wife.

These are the sons of Oholibamah, Esau's wife: the chiefs Jeush, Jalam, and Korah; these are the chiefs born of Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau's wife.

These are the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these are their chiefs.
