Brand Spotlight: True Botanicals
True Botanicals prides itself on being all natural. They are MADE SAFE certified, meaning all their products are free from the 5,000+ ingredients that are known or suspected to harm human health. They have attracted an impressive cult following thanks to their clinically proven formulas and celebrity ambassadors like Olivia Wilde and Laura Dern.
My skin in a nutshell: combination needing TLC
I’m a 20 something with combination/acne prone skin. I regularly look for skincare that will effectively treat existing breakouts and prevent future ones, without overdrying my skin. I rarely buy products for a second time, as by the time I’ve used the whole bottle, I usually want to try the next thing I’ve found. The only exception to this so far is the Squalane Cleanser and Natural Moisturising Factors with HA from The Ordinary. I also make an effort to be a conscious consumer, supporting brands that are vegan, non-toxic and have recyclable packaging.
The Quiz
The thing that initially piqued my interest in True Botanicals over other clean skincare brands is their personalized quiz. This step makes all the difference for me, because it’s the next best thing to going to an expert and being given a personalized skincare regimen. I get overwhelmed when I look at product ranges, and don’t necessarily have the specialist knowledge to know what would be best for me. If you feel like that too, you can take the quiz here. It takes all of 5 minutes, is totally free, has no obligations, and will give you informative explanations as to why each product was chosen for you.
My Custom Skincare Routine
Clear Nourishing Cleanser:
It can take a bit to get used to using a non-foaming cleanser. This one feels very silky on the skin, and even though it’s lightweight it goes a long way. It doesn’t feel like a deep cleanse, but it does do a great job. When combined with warm water and a washcloth it does effectively remove makeup, get into your pores and leave your skin feeling soft, fresh and nourished. It’s a great feeling to use a cleanser designed for acne prone skin that doesn’t dry your skin out like crazy. Plus, I love the lavender scent of this cleanser, it’s a beautiful way to begin and end your day.
Key Ingredients: Green and White Tea for skin soothing, Black Willow Bark Extract as nature’s salicylic acid, and Helichrysum to heal breakouts and minimize scarring.

Clear Nutrient Toner:
There’s something very satisfying about using a toner, right? This is definitely my favorite toner I’ve ever used. It’s super gentle, yet very effectively clears acne and congestion. Instead of being super astringent and stripping your skin of oil, making it produce more sebum; it balances the oils on your face and acts as a powerful anti-bacterial. I love using it AM and PM for noticeably tighter pores and acne prevention.
Key Ingredients: Olive Leaf Extract as a powerful antibacterial and antioxidant, Sandalwood Hydrosol that fights acne causing bacteria and regenerates skin cells, and Black Willow Bark Extract as nature’s salicylic acid.

Clear Pure Radiance Oil:
This facial oil is a holy grail product for acne prone skin. Understandably, most people suffering from acne would see ‘oil’ and want to avoid it. However, by nourishing your skin with non-comedogenic oils, you are actually encouraging your skin to stop overproducing sebum. This is the only face oil I’ve tried that works well on acne prone skin. It gives your skin a plump and a glow and absorbs well.
The thing is, it is very pricey, and I have not yet decided whether I will repurchase because of the price. It is very long lasting though, I’ve been using it everyday for over a month and have only used a fraction of the bottle. Overall, I think it’s worth trying once to see if it becomes your holy grail skincare product as it has for other people.
Key Ingredients: Hemp, pumpkin and grapeseed oils help to unclog your pores by balancing sebum, Algae extract and astaxanthin nourish the skin, restore the skin’s natural barrier and stimulate collagen product. Helichrysum helps to prevent or heal breakouts and minimize scarring.
