INTRODUCTION

Imagine yourself meeting a person in a cafe just to have a chitchat, a chitchat where the topics that are out of the world, topics that are exclusively for high IQ's that everyone around you would drop their jaw listening from your conversation, and not only on the conversation but also on your appearance. You are not from the same family or not blood-related but you two are identical, when I say "Identical" I mean literally identical, everything between you are identical from head to toe including the fingerprint. Except maybe for the outfit?

BRIEF EXPLANATION OF CRISPR

C - clustered

R - regularly

I - interspaced

S - short

P - palindromic

R - repeats

We won't go over the acronym as well as the internet meaning of the CRISPR, I'm going to break this as simple as I can.

CRISPR is more likely the immune system in our body.

bacterias and viruses inject RNA or DNA to your body and overwrites your DNA.

which eventually will kill the cells if we don't have an immune system.

HOW CRISPR WORKS

Intentionally made the DNA not in helix for better understanding.

When Bacteria or Virus infects and injects DNA, the Cas9 along with the guide RNA(gRNA or the CrisprRNA) sniffs the DNA injected by the bacteria/virus and delivers it to the matching target ( your DNA). The viral/bacterial DNA sticks around the target DNA(your DNA). Though along the journey if it sense that it's a harmful DNA, it will automatically kill it.

Think of a taxi, taxi driver and a passenger. Regard the taxi as sa Cas9, the taxi driver as the guideRNA and the passenger as the foreign RNA. The driver then fetch the passenger and takes to the destination safely although if the passenger is a criminal, it is most likely be killed in the journey.

However, human's curiosity doesn't end there and think of pushing further more as to purposely injecting DNA desired to alter. If it succeeded then current's unbeatable disease will be a no big deal already. It will be a huge leap of advancement humanity will take.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

The fact that DNA can be overwritten amused me in any way. The outcome of possibilities of it being discovered is boundless and among the possible possibilities may be an advantage or disadvantage to humanity.

Advantages may include curing any sickness, altering the color of the eye, improving one's intelligence , skin color, etc. In short all the things that DNA holds can be altered but things , choices, decisions discoveries comes in a price could you even think the level of intensity of distruction incase global war is lit? the egos of each since people tend to think they're better than anyone? We are slowly entering a period where people can be modified and my mind seems not ready to take it all.

The readers are free to think of the possible disadvantages, the discussion is open.

Are these things have blown your minds? Do you think advantages are more than the disadvantages? The possibilities are boundless and hence it begs the question, is CRISPR humanity's greatest discovery or humanity's greatest downfall?

I think selective breeding is related to this since you can choose the traits you want a person to have. Science is limitless nowadays, and this is somehow alarming. My biology and genetics learnings could never!! 😂 Anyway, ang galing!! You explain it well. 🥰

I don't know a thing about selective breeding but I might as well check on that. Salamat sa pagbasa doc. 😁
