Something new about my cacti and succulents.

Most cacti and succulents have similar characteristics but one of the differences between cacti and succulents is that all succulents are cacti but not all cacti are succulents.

Many succulents don’t have spines and instead have varieties of villi, but sometimes they lack those.

Many cacti have large, sharp, highly branched spines and other cacti only have some very attractive villi.

Their roots are tuberous, branched and very long or fine.

They appreciate exposure to the sun and need very little humidity to survive they can even endure great water shortages. They aren’t indoor plants although they can live for some time with indirect exposure to the sun, but if you want them to develop properly, with good growth and flowering, they should not be removed from direct sunlight.

They need a soil combined with organic compost, sand or stones for good water drainage.

Their transplant is easy. One of the stems that surround the cactus must be taken, carefully cut or detached from its lower edge, leave this stem in an airy place without sowing for about a week, preferably in the shadows. This is done to get the transplanted plant to heal before it’s planted, and so that it doesn’t rot or become infected with any diseases.

When putting it in the soil for transplantation, the water must have been previously placed to moisten the transplant soil and then left there for another week until the plant acclimatizes to it.

After all of this, it can be watered according to the needs of the cactus and placed in direct sun, just like the mother plant.

This method has worked for me very well with most cacti and succulents.

Today I’ll show you this little cactus which is one of my favorites.

Rebutia Cactus:

It’s a cactus of the Cactaceae family. It’s also well known as Sulcorebutia. It’s originally from Argentina and Bolivia.

They are fast growing and very prolific plants that develop many stems around them. Its shape is rounded, columnar, cylindrical and flattened by its upper portion with an abundance of short, radiated spines.

It must have direct exposure to the sun for its correct flowering and development. Its soil must have good drainage because it does not support excess liquid as its roots and stem rot from it.

To reproduce this cactus it’s best to remove one of its stems and then transplant it directly into a pot. Keep it in the shade for a few days and then gradually expose it to the sun.
