This is a legend that was born in the Lara state, specifically in the city of Barquisimeto in a region called Yucatan, during the 70s. In this town there was a farm with the same name (Yucatan) and there was a working peasant from the farm.
One fine day, while doing his chores, he came across the corpse of a man. At first he thought he was nothing more than a drunk lying down, but it turns out that the man was dead, he proceeded to tell everyone on the farm what he had found.
They immediately began to search all over the place, asking the neighbors if anyone had gotten lost. But no matter how much they searched, they could not find anyone who had recently lost a relative or anyone who recognized this man.
The peasant from the Yucatan farm decided to take the body of the deceased man and bury it in the nearest cemetery, the Barquisimeto cemetery. Since no relative of his was found, he did it as a charity towards that poor man.
As the days go by, the farmer realizes that several good things began to happen to him. Little by little he begins to receive good news, money, inheritance, properties and more!
The peasant starts thinking that all of this is due to his good deed towards that dead man he buried and the people of the town and farm, seeing this happen, go to the cemetery and begin to ask him, the deceased man, that he do the same for them, that he would help them as well.
Little by little the popularity of the good fortune that was given to the people who asked the deceased for favors grew, and the deceased man's popularity was increasing as well.
The farmer from the Yucatan farm, seeing that the deceased was becoming more famous, removed him from the cemetery and decided to make him a mausoleum, the man's body has been in there to this day.
The entire mausoleum is full of plaques of people thanking the deceased man for his kindness. Plaques in the shapes of notebooks, books, and medals fill the mausoleum, all with a thank you from the people that were helped by the man.
They say that you can see this mausoleum if you go to the mausoleum next to the Barquisimeto cemetery.
This is the legend of the deceased man from Yucatan.
Oh do the people really get good deeds from asking favours of the deceased man? Or were they helped by the man who buried the deceased man?
