A love story from Greek mythology.

The god Hades and his power over death originated many stories in Greek mythology. I’m personally moved by the story of Orpheus, who plays the lyre while singing in such a way that it moves all who hear him.

One of the people he managed to captivate with his music was the beautiful Eurydice, they fell in love and loved each other in a very peculiar way.

The way both Orpheus and Eurydice loved each was something that the gods envied; although Orpheus was the son of Apollo he was also the son of a mortal, and humans could not have such idyllic loves because only the gods could. A love like the two of them shared was considered a bad omen.

One day Eurydice was gathering fruits in the forest and was seen by a centaur, these centaurs were considered beasts of sexual aberration and procreation, Eurydice only took one look at him before running away, she’s chased by the centaur and eventually she falls into a pit of vipers. Her beloved Orpheus finds her said pit, but it was too late, she had been dead for many hours. Orpheus love of her was so strong that he mourned her too much and then thought of going to the underworld and taking her from Hades himself.

According to Greek mythology, if you wanted to revive a dead person you had to go down to the underworld and challenge Hades, and so did Orpheus. He went down to the underworld and played his intoxicating music, which affected even the god Hades to such an extent that, from the emotion that Hades felt upon hearing this melody, he cried. Thanks to this he allowed Eurydice to rise again and leave the underworld. But on one condition, Orpheus had to go up without turning to see if Eurydice was behind him.

She was to go after her beloved Orpheus as they climbed. On the other hand, Orpheus could not bear his curiosity and as soon as he reached the exit of the underworld he turned around, without realizing that Eurydice still had one foot on the underworld, and as he looks at her just to make sure his beloved was coming after him, he sees her taken back to the underworld for not fulfilling his promise.

Orpheus realizes the mistake he made and could no longer do anything. He couldn't beat the god of death, no one could beat the god of the underworld.

He was alone, alone with his music and singing melodies about his odyssey in the underworld to rescue his beloved, and how he lost her again because of his own curiosity.

But it was only for a short time as he died shortly after during a battle. It was then that he managed to go down to the underworld and meet his beloved again.

So are Greek dramas. Sometimes they end badly but sometimes they end very badly.

There are much worse endings to greek dramas? And I thought most of them were tragic enough, honestly

In these Greek stories everything is drama. Their stories are captivated by so many bad things that the gods and humans do with their power.

I guess so but some fascinating things did come out of the unions of some gods and all so i can't say all of it was tragic

But more we remember are the tragic stories than the beautiful ones. Tragedy is always more impressive.

And overcoming those tragedies are much more impressive feats too than anything

What a sad story, the good thing is that they met after death, united until eternity

This is why reading and writing about Greek mythology is so fascinating. It's kind of like life in Sodom and Gomorrah. I'm glad to see you!
