PHILIPPINE HISTORY

It sounds like a suspicion you’d get asked if you were in introductory school, but it reimburses to re-think it now and then. The last time we, as a country, asked ourselves what gives rise to a hero was during the Marcos burial controversy.

Today, another discussion is creating, but this time it’s a slight little different: Some people are fighting to change the name of the fish Lapu-Lapu because it humiliates the hero.

But the question is, was Lapu-Lapu all that heroic?

Describe in relation Lapu-Lapu with other heroes like Andres Bonifacio and Sultan Kudarat. What separates Lapu-Lapu from the last two is that his vitalities weren’t as nationalist. As far as he existed fearful, Mactan was another attempt by Humabon to expel him. He didn’t affirm Mactan against a foreign assailant, he solely drove away from an opponent fighter.

But what Lapu-Lapu is, is a character. Lapu-Lapu first evolved a face on the one centavo coin in 1967, at a time when nationalist fury was at an all-time bliss. This was a time when Filipinos were beginning to comprehend what it meant to be “Filipino.” This was the moment of the Nayong Pilipino, Filipino as the forum of teaching, "Baybayin" on every street corner, and the exploration for “Filipino” civilization in a post-colonial nation.

For my thinking, He was a real hero. Some people doubted it. Lapu Lapu is the first and a true Hero in the Philippines. He is against invaders or defeater to our country. Regardless of his ancestry, he was fleeing in our territory and the first Filipino who has that fearless to combat for our land. He has no colonial intellect at that time, unlike our chroniclers that focusing only on prominent manila's warriors, giving them more vigor even if the largest of their consequences are not something to be glorious of. For me, our national hero is Lapu-Lapu.

Lapu-Lapu (c. 1521) is a tributary on the island of Mactan, an island in Visayas, Philippines, known as the earliest native island to fight against the Spanish occupation. He was also responsible for the death of traveler Fernando Magallanes. He is considered the first Filipino hero. He is also known by the names Çilapulapu, Lapulapu, Slipp Pulaka, and Khalifa Lapu or Caliph Lapu (also spelled as Cali Pulaco), but the origin of its names is disputed.

Citizens of the Sulu Archipelago believe that Lapu-Lapu is a Muslim from the Tausug. It is also believed that Lapu-Lapu and Rajah Humabon were the founders of the Cebu Sultanate.

As a leader of Mactan, Lapu-Lapu was a firm believer. As proof of this, he strongly denies Magellan's fraudulent offers. According to Magellan, he would give Lapu-Lapu a good position and a unique recognition, but in exchange for recognizing and establishing the Spanish government within his jurisdiction and under it, would occupy the whole Philippines and occupy real lands. belongs to the natives and in particular the relative and family Lapu-Lapu (Lapulapu). Magellan was very angry with Lapu-Lapu's ss refusal to offer.

Meanwhile, a son of Datu Zulla, the enemy of Lapu-Lapu, sided with Magellan and they formed an invasion of the Mactan locality. It was midnight on April 26, 1521, when Magellan, with his more than one thousand followers, sailed to take over the locals. At Open where Lapu-Lapu and ten of his relatives were located. On the other hand, Lapu-Lapu's 1,500 warriors are ready to meet it. They were stationed on the seafront. When the two forces met, a raging battle began in Mactan. Lapu-Lapu later overpowered Magellan when he hit him in the left leg. Magellan fell to the ground and here he was later killed by Lapu-Lapu's ss subjects. He died of two buffaloes in Batangas, when he was invited by the king of Estonia. As he was waiting for his farmer friend, two buffaloes suddenly grabbed him and lost consciousness.

Well, it's hard to say the things we had, but we had a Philippines-Spanish War shortly before Spain fought the US (Spain not recognizing the 1st Republic of the Philippines), then Philippines-US War because we wanted independence from the US (and Spain), then World War 2's the largest conflict I'm aware of that involved us.
