How to stop a panic attack in its tracks:

In this day and age a lot of yound and older people alike seem to be suffering from various kinds of anxiety. The reasons why it is so are plentiful and deserve a separate mention in a longer post. As for right now, I would like to recommend you guys two techniques that I find particularly useful when I get that familiar "sinking" feeling in the pit of my stomach:

  1. Focus on your breathing. Keep it slow and steady. Slowly inhale the air couting to 4, then hold and count to 4 followed by a slow exhale, also lasting four beats, and finally hold your breath again. Repeat until you feel better. If it helps, close your eyes and forget about the things surrouding you. People can see you, but cannot see through you. They cannot see your thoughts. You are safe.

  2. The second trick is actually from a really good show. It is called a 5-4-3-2 technique. You want to take a deep breath, and then name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear and 2 things you can smell. You can mumble those to yourself or name them in your mind, does not matter. The reason this works is because, again, like with the first method, you force yourself to stop paying attention to your worrying thoughts, snap out of your head and realise that the situation that you are finding yourself in is completely normal and that you are worrying about not what is happening right now, but what may happen. What may happen is not real. You, right now, are okay.

Stay calm, people!
