California exodus.
For the longest time, Americans have referred to immigration as an influx of people from the developing world. Still, the current market conditions are changing, and now Americans are looking for a better place to live. Not every American is leaving America, and it is only those who can afford to move and have the means to do so too. The immigration phenomenon is not coming from every state within the United States, and a lot is coming from California.
California is the golden state because here in California, everything has a golden cost; by that, I mean that the cost of living is much higher than in other states. Many people who own houses in the Golden state have decided to sell and move on to a much cheaper state where the cost of living is much less and live off whatever money is left after buying cash in another territory. Californians are not just fleeing to other states but leaving the whole United States. When Californians leave the United States, that movement counts as international immigration. Still, this time around is not poor people moving to rich countries but rich people who can't afford their old standard of living.
Remote work has made it even easier to migrate to other cities. Those with a job that pays in dollars can move to places where local salaries are much cheaper than those moving in and, as such, can afford a better standard of living with the same wage. Still, this flux of new citizens doesn't always benefit the local economy. It affects it because the locals are priced out and can't compete for goods and services. Their salaries are denominated in a much weaker currency, case, and point, the Mexican peso.
Many Californians are leaving and settling in the northern states of Mexico. They can do it because they have a remote job that pays in dollars like if they were living in the United States, but with remote work can afford to move anywhere. Many are choosing the closest cities possible to have the ability to come back to the United States. Many are already working in the United States, living in Mexico, and crossing the border daily.
Reverse immigration is something that reflects the state of the current economy. It is not good news at all. It is an early warning because, eventually, things will be so expensive in California that even immigrants will be forced to leave the Golden state or return to their country of origin.
Right now, you could say that is only something that Californians and remote workers who are lucky enough to have that kind of job in the first place. Suppose the price of living keeps increasing, and your salary depreciates. In that case, eventually, we will all be the next Californians doing the reserve immigration, and that is not something just limited to California, but the whole Western nation or any nation for that matter. The California system is something that all rich countries have now, and even countries in Europe could start saying the same effect more and more.
And is not something to laugh about, and it is not something that a developing nation needs either, because if people in the rich countries leave for greener pastures soon enough, it will affect the less fortunate countries too. It could become a lot harder for them.
If you live in a developing world nation and you still have some democracy that somehow is still working. Make sure that in the subsequent elections, you elect a politician that worries more about your local economy and tries to bring prosperity to your place and not just enrich himself. If possible, save yourself as much as possible if you also need to change the address.
I am trying to say that if rich people become poorer, eventually, that economy will trickle down into other economies. Sometimes the best safe boat will be the one you build yourself. Save money, preserve your wealth and capital in the current downtrend, and if you are going to invest, do it wisely. Remember that everything you hear and read could be propaganda, including this article. The truth is that when downtrends are visible from a mile away, people will try to depart you from your money and property desperately.
Bear markets are the time to plan a good seed in the ground but also remember some would try to take it from you.
meaning a lot of Californians are migrating because of high cost of living there. that's sad.
