How are thyme juice and thyme oil obtained?
Thyme collected in May and June is left to dry for a few days. Since they will be dry during collection, it will be sufficient to leave them in the shade.
Thyme, which is placed in a cauldron, is pressed with stones so that it does not rise above the water. This weight will prevent them from floating above the water.
An empty tray, a pot-like vessel, is placed on top of it. Thyme juice, which will be obtained by drip method here, will fill into the last container.
We add enough water to reach the top of the Thyme we put in the cauldron.
After this process, the mouth of the cauldron is closed with the help of a tray and the exposed parts are plastered with dough. The purpose here is to prevent air intake.
Although there are steam boilers made for this process today, I still prefer to use the old methods. You can view the picture below.
After the first boiling, we boil for hours on low heat. In this process, the water that boils and evaporates hits the tray and drips into the pot that I put in it. Thus, we begin to obtain Kekis water and oil by drip method. After 4-5 hours of boiling, we open and lift the tray we covered with dough. You will see that the pot that we put empty is full and the smell of Thyme will cover the whole place. The smell is so strong that it is impossible to take a deep breath. If you take a deep breath, you will be exposed to a cough that will last for hours. The smell is too strong.
Immediately after taking the pot, we remove the oily layer on it with the help of an injector with the help of an injector. These are Thyme oil, which is the sharpest part of Thyme. Thyme oil is obtained very little. Thyme oil, which can be measured in grams, comes out of kilos of Thyme. That's why the most valuable part is Oregano oil.
The remaining water is thyme juice. What you see in the picture are the Thyme juices that I extracted this year.
I trade Thyme in the process that starts in May and continues until the end of June. It is a plant that grows quite often in my area.
What is described here is a supportive treatment method. Please do your own research.
