In my own experienced I did a theater show when I was in college for our final exam. I must say that it was one of my unforgettable experience in my college life. I love watching musical shows, I am amazed at how actors and actresses played their role so well in terms of singing and acting. That time when we performed our role it was a big achievement for me to show my talents in front of many audiences.

Theater arts for me is one important field of art that shows the culture of a combination of singing and acting. Acting has always been incorporated with singing and dancing since the beginning of the birth of civilization.

Acting, singing, and dancing then was performed during rituals, religious acts, and various celebration for the king, queens, and warriors. Various types of theater arts came from different parts of the Asia region. The Malays have religious rituals and other types of dances and acting."Komedya" and "Senakulo were of Spanish influences as well as "zarzuela" which are drama plays with song and dance. The western parts have the famous vaudeville dancing act, and some other types of theater act.

The philippine theater adapted many of the different kinds of theater arts like"Senakulo" and "zARZUELA" During the 1950's vaudeville was the most popular theater art in the country. Many Filipino artists came to perform this theater act. Some of them were Kathy Dela Cruz,Bayani Casimiro,Chuchi and lot more.

The contemporary theater arts have made a major breakthrough. We have our local artist who made big names in the international theater arts some of them are Lea Salonga,Jaime Rivera,Monique Wilson and other talented Filipino artist.In some theaters,various plays are held and being performed like in the Culture Center of the Philippines,CCP little theater,the former Manila Metropolitan Theater, Philippine International Convention Center and U.P Theaters.

Theaters plays were created with different items,some conservative types of theater act like the Zarzuela which were revived for the modern age are 'Pilipinas Circa 1977"by Nicanor B.Tianzon,"Prinsipe Rodante" a new komedya by Max Allonique in 1982,the timeless Christmas and Panunuluyan,Christmas Story showing the travel of Joseph and Mary before the birth of son of God-Jesus Christ.

Theater plays are also being promoted and exposed in many schools. The use of the English language as the medium of expression for many theater dramas is also done. There are theater groups who are trying to improve theaters acting like the Repertory Philippines and the Batibot Club.The Repertory Philippines is doing the English version of theater dramas while Batibot is using the Filipino language for their plays.
