Train Sounds

You hear it in the distance. As the passengers wait, as the station employee waits, you wait for a dog to casually enter the frame. The logic of the image and the logic of the day makes it feel like it’s the kind of day where that’s possible. The wind runs an ‘Attaboy!’ hand through the gentle geometric chandeliers of the nearby trees. You hear the whistle again and try and imagine who or what could surf the wave of that sound. (A bandit being pursued across the top of the train making his final leap to escape? Christian Doppler attempting to demonstrate his eponymous effect in action to gathered students?)
