Splinterlands and the Axie infinity has made a lot of people some money. Some managed to come out of the poverty. Some got an option to do something and got some funds in the hands on the top of their day job.

Some of the people continued playing game, joined guilds and also done the work of the scholar and mentor in the discord. However as the time went ahead and the crypto winter started peeking it's head, it went down.

A lot of people thought they could leave the job and also retire based on the crypto income. And they continued holding those tokens. And then suddenly the global recession and also the market turned down.

So what made me think that it is short term only and not sustainable? What is my issue with the play to earn for a long term career?

Limited Earning Window

Play to earn games have a phase. Like the phase where they are new. You can also find new people adding the cashflow. And some of the time that window is slow then it takes time.

So you may have to think of the limiting earning during the setup to the growth. And once you see the market is in demand for this game, that is when you make the exit. Some of the time that is how the limited earning works out.

In case if you want to do some consistent earning, you can get into content creation, mentoring etc. But being a player and getting the nausea while spending the time is going to be working against you. It's a limited earning window for a game.

Nausea, Health Issues, Depression

Playing game for entire day and night and then doing this routine for months. How much do you think that would be sustainable? You have to think of the health too. Like spending hours and not moving? That's bad for health.

You can also get health issues like weight gain and then diabetes. Some of the time such type of the health issues can be pretty bad for your health. So make sure to think of the proper health routine.

When you lose, not make much money online and the real world issues of the life comes into your life, that would lead to the depression. Some of the time that is what would affect you the most as well. So think about that too.

HODL punishments

A lot of people in the play to earn continue to hold the tokens in hand. And that makes it hard for them to anticipate when to sell. Which is kind of like punishment for holding the asset.

When you hold and when to sell is some of the timing for the game. Because you never know the timing. Something a lot of people need to think through in order to get over the HODL issues they face.

When you HODL for some time you realize how much you have missed the life. And that is kind of a punishment of small time. So think about all of those small things when you plan to sell tokens, NFTs that could help you in general.

Exit Timings

Every game has a golden period after which it starts to decline. No amount of new players would keep the game going in reality. The game just loses the developers and the investor interest. So the exit matters.

You have to understand that exit timing for the content creation, players and also the game developers need to be thought about. Because nothing lives forever or stay alive forever.

You can think of the exit timing for the game and also the gaming phase. Because gamers too get bored after some of the time. So you may want to plan that when you choose investment.

What do you think?

I feel the play to earn games are good for short term. And if you want to earn some consistent income and set yourself for the long term that would be something you would do but it's not something you plan or should think with serious long term.

What's your opinion?
