Life lessons from your 80-year-old elders

5 46

Sometimes it pays to listen to the elders. At the age of 80, there are life lessons you can learn from your elders that can help you overcome the challenges you may be experiencing on a daily basis. Before we get to these life lessons, let's take a look at a typical day in our lives.

Every morning we wake up and first we get through the crisis of what to wear, read the horrible news in the newspapers, fight the traffic and get to work. After a busy work schedule all day, we find a solution to the dinner problem.

As the days chase each other like this, we start to wait for the weekend, hoping to relax a little more. But what is it? You need to plan for the weekend! Without a plan, time flies by and you have nothing to prove that you exist in life.

How are we going to live to the age of our grandparents when our daily lives are in such chaos? And how is it that someone in their 80s can feel so much more vibrant and energetic than you?

When you feel like you are in such a predicament, it might be good to call your elders and maybe "listen to the big words". They have experienced chaos, war and peace, so they have the power to solve the problems that we young people face today.

When you talk to your elders for a while, you can immediately realize how you are actually stressing yourself out. So how is it that someone in their 80s can feel so much more vital and energetic than you?

Here's what you can learn from those born in the 1920s...

It doesn't matter how busy you are or how many problems you are thinking about at the same time. Take a break. You only get one day in your life, so don't miss it. Even a 15-minute coffee break and some time alone with yourself can be enough.

Of course you should take care of your health and your body, but don't overdo it. Eating salads every day or spending your whole life counting calories is not the solution. Sometimes a piece of cake can be as good as a spa massage. Enjoy life without feeling guilty and don't get too hung up on prohibitions.

Sometimes when a lot of things are piling up, the best thing you can do is to go for a walk. Leave everything behind and enjoy the neighborhood, the city, smell the rain, window shop, meet new people and enjoy the moment. This always rests your mind and body.

The busyness of the day may have made you dizzy, but you should always keep your goals and thoughts aside. Write down what you learn every day. Without realizing it, you will see how much you have learned in that day. You only get one day in your life, so don't miss it.

It doesn't matter your age or your interests; the important thing is to renew yourself with new things you learn. Your mind is actually always open to learning. Just follow your curiosity.

Think of every new day as a party and dress accordingly. You don't have to wear high heels, sparkling dresses and suits, but with a little touch you can completely change your look. Always be prepared for the important things that may come your way, because life doesn't wait.
