“They Painted the Town Pink” *February 25, 2022* *Friday* It was a fine Friday morning, just another usual day of my day-to-day living. As always, we did our morning routine as the sun greeted us with its sunshine, we walked and strolled around the neighborhood. However, before we took our walk, I noticed this stuff being tied on a tree branch outside the gate. Along with it was a banner, but I chose not to indicate the banner in my click. This ribbon is pink in color that symbolizes an endorsement of a presidential candidate here in the country, the Philippines. Funny it seems the politics here have distinctive colors. But then, color has nothing to do if you come to think of it. What’s odd was, the whole neighborhood turns pinkish last Friday, seems each house has ribbons and banners outside their gates. Then, I heard people talking about this presidential candidate, that she will arrive and passed by here in our hometown. To be honest, I am not yet decided on whom to vote as my president, I wanted to research more and know them more but why do they put ribbons outside the gate? But then, I never asked and just let it be. And on the same morning, I heard my neighbors and family talking about the arrival of the said presidential candidate, and they assumed her convoy will pass by our street after lunch. I saw people holding their ribbons, and balloons ready to welcome their candidates and their team, and, I was just there to watch. Before the morning ends, I went out quickly to buy something, and I saw this scene that wonders me.
Our plaza was full of colored pink ribbons, balloons, and flag pennant strings. I assumed that they will stop by here in the plaza based on what I saw. After I bought the things I needed, I headed back home and checked my Facebook account. Most of my friends who were my classmates from high school and college are supporters of the said candidate. And because of their FB posts, I recognized that the presidential candidate together with her team held a mini proclamation here in our hometown. Then, in the neighborhood, most of the people waited for them to pass by in our street.
Even my little boy was busy at the gate. He was there the whole afternoon just for staring at different cars and jeepneys full of pink ribbons and balloons. There were also trucks with bands playing drums. You can truly feel the election has started. I remember when I was a kid, I wonder why there were many vehicles with ribbons, playing songs or jingles that weren’t familiar, now that I am already a voter, now I know what were those stuff before, and why they only held once after how many years. And as far as I remember this event happened to the town recently was one of the biggest event and candidates that visited our hometown. I only remember a few senatorial candidates visiting our hometown but it happened long years ago. I didn’t go to see the proclamation, I am busy with my work at home, but to be honest, for me, I wanted to attend too, not because I am a supporter, but I want to know their plans, and agendas or their propagandas prepared if ever they will be elected. I am willing to listen because I am a concerned citizen too. Because for me, it is very crucial to know your candidates better, we should hear them all, not only the one we support, a good country needs good and a willful leader too not only in words but also in action, so knowing their plans for making the country better we should listen to them. Look at the plaza’s state when the VP was there with her team, this photo was posted on a Facebook page. The link is provided below.

I mean, I guess, whoever will visit in our town, they are for sure welcome here. We, the Pototanons are so open and cheerful to welcome them all. Ps: This article isn’t an endorsement, since I don’t want to publicize my choices, especially about politics. As you see, I never said I am supporting anyone. ***I respect everyone’s choices and opinions since we are all free to express them.*** I just wanted to share what I saw and witnessed here in my hometown last Friday. And all I wanted as of the moment is to respect whatever ‘colors’ you are supporting and primarily ‘world peace, I guess you’ve heard the news about Russia and Ukraine. They all need our prayers. And for my country, I hope and pray that whoever will seat as president is the deserving one, and will give all his/her best to serve the people and the nation. ***We, the Filipinos have the power to vote whoever is deserving, we should use this power, wisely and factual. We are aware of how dirty the politics are here in the Philippines, it's undeniable.*** ***So, listen to your heart and mind, not to others' opinions, do not be blinded and overwhelmed by any vote-buying, appoint only you believe who deserves it.***

Sis until I don't know who it will be. I don't know who I'm going to vote especially the presidential position. I don't know sis. A confusion exist. I wanted the person to won the position who's deserving one. The leader who has a words. A true leader that will help to uplift our country from big issues and problems.
Ako din sis, as in nahihirapan ako kung sino ba. Kaso our vote is needed tlga, need tlga natin mging wise sa panahon ngayon.
Ngayon be careful na talaga sis.
Oo sis totoo yan. Ang hirap. Sana totoong pangulo na mananalo sis.
Daming kakampink jan ah. And let's let it be nalang din sa mga supporter ni VP. Sana kilala mo pa ko haha
Hahaha oo naman Ryan? 🤣 Nagulat nga ko daming pinkachuchu dito. As in npuno nila ang venue hahaa, akala ko kasi mga walang pake mga tao dito. 😅
Ay kilala pako, salamat ngaman hahaha
Hahaha makakalimutan ba naman kita, new account mo pla yan hihi
Ayy haha thank you.
Pero at the end of the day, kung sino man ang mananalo eh suportahan natin dahil tayo ay Pilipino.
Ako din momshie eh, parang may napupusuan ako pero di pa tlga sure hehe. Kaya nga, kung sino man ang maappoint need tlga ntin suportahan, iisang lahi at iisang bansa lg tayo. ☺
For me, di padin ako pupunta kasi naka desisyon nako if sino talaga ivovote ko.
Fink na Fink nga sis hihi and yes we have to vote wisely and just respect other people's choices.
True, kaya ako kahit snuman pumunta dito , iwewelcome ko, tao parin namn sila at kapwa Pinoy pa natin. ☺
Election time are always like this in developing countries
Yeah, full of colorful stuff, colorful words and promises. 😁
Makes me wonder whoever started with the color scheme? I don't get it too. Is that another way to divide us?
Absolutely, they just make it more complicated, now even the colors of the shirts we wore sometimes misinterpreted being connected to certain candidates. 🤷🏼♀️
I don't get why people still decide to vote someone who doesn't attend debates to present himself to the nation. 😅
Hahah me too sis, ngwowonder din ako tlga eh. 😅 Pinoy nga naman tlaga. Naalala ko tuloy si Sen. Bong, may kaso ngbudots nanalo. 😅
I am not like a person who discriminate the candidates but that pinkeys ribbon is not appropriate for me to be follow a president, I have lot of gains on her. If you want to know who I am gonna vote in this election I will vote that called them BBM. Btw hi I am your new supporter here, I hope we gonna be friends.
