1 Chronicles 4:9-10 KJV
And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. [10] And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
Jabez was only mentioned three times in the bible, the first being 1chronicles 2:55KJV which does not really count, because the Jabez mentioned actually not a person but rather a town. So in other words Jabez as a person was mentioned two times in the whole bible.
The name Jabez means "he causes pain" so we can simply say there is something about his birth, about his total existance that caused so much pain, a pain the mother could never forget till she died. This pain was for life.
In those days names ment so much, it was a sign of how a persons life should be and would be. It was their future, therefore "names" carried power And this was the curse that followed Jabez.
Jabez became a man who believed in God and in the power of God. He cried out to the lord with boldness and Jabez was honored because of His relationship with God. The record of the genealogy of Judah was interrupted just to talk about Jabez, his relationship with God must have been exceptionally noteworthy to cause the author of the book of Chronicles to stop and elaborate on one man's life.
Jabez never cared about his name or what it stands for all he cared about was what God says in his life, he never cared about what friends and even his family said about him, what matters was what God said about him.
What about you?
Are you still being ruled by what man says? Or by the difficulties you see in front of you?

Jeremiah 29:11 KJV
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
