Matthew 26:36-38 KJV
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. [37] And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. [38] Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
We can never fully understand Christ pain in the garden of Gethsemane, but at least we dont have to misunderstand what it means and how it affects us today. The event of the Garden of Gethsemane was like the pain of God and man all in one person, coming face to face with sin.
The event of Gathsemane and Calvary represent something painful yet important, it represents the agony of Christ and the gateway to salvation for man, it represents the love of the father, and the acceptance of man and his sinful nature in exchange for salvation.
The pain and fear Jesus felt on the garden of Gethsemane was not His death on the cross, infact His major purpose on earth was to die for man, His fear was the fact that He might not get through the struggle as the son of man, He was very confident He could overcome it as the son of God, which proves to us how much Christ loves us, that He came in Human from, even with all our emotions such as fear, anger etc. The pain He went through was for us to gain access to the father, He gave us unlimited access to the father, He released grace on the cross, that is why we can access forgiveness even with all our ways.
