I have been craving for some 'Nasi Goreng USA' which is fried rice (nasi goreng) and USA, not United States of America but an acronym for Udang, Sotong, Ayam which is prawns, squid, and chicken.

This dish has somehow evolved to not include the USA too though and instead is a fried rice dish that has a fried egg that has a creamy yolk topped on the fried rice and it comes with a serving of beef slices that has been fried in a wok with onions, capsicum, cauliflower, some fresh chili and the sauce made from spicy ketchup, fish sauce, oyster sauce, and some tomato puree.

Beef with Onions and Cauliflower

So I'm not sure how it has become this dish but yeah, if you do go order a 'Nasi Goreng USA' here in Malaysia, you'll get this exact dish no matter at what restaurant you go to that serves it.

I ordered this at a local Malay/Thai cuisine spot nearby where I live. It was super delicious and really hit the spot on the cravings department. The beef was tender and the sauce was so flavorful and perfectly paired with the fried rice and the egg yolk. The vegetables like the onions and cauliflower were also cooked well and delicious.

The place is quite dimly lit but has a Bali-ish kindda vibe to it. Hence the not so clear pictures and also it was in the night.

They've been closed since the pandemic started in 2020 and they recently opened their shop again. Seeing local neighborhood shops close down 1 by 1 is really a pain so I was really glad to know that they've opened their doors again to serving really yummy and affordable Malay/Thai food.
