Last Monday we had a family dinner at a nearby Chinese restaurant in a shopping mall. The place is a halal Chinese restaurant and I've heard there have been some good reviews of the place so I was quite eager to try out the food.

My dad wanted to have peking duck dish which we haven't had in a long time so this place was serving it which was one of the reasons we went there. The place wasn't too crowded and is was a pleasant dining experience. We ordered a set meal which was on their promo and it came with a variety of dishes to choose from. A reasonably priced promo offer and a nice spread of selections to choose from.

  • Peking Duck
The peking duck was tasty but it was slightly undercooked (very very slightly) and I would've preferred if the skin was a crispier. It was delicious with pancake wrap which this one was quite unique as it was green and had a slight pandan flavor. It came with a few dipping sauces like the iconic hoisin sauce and also some other sauces like plum sauce and also garlic and lime chili sauce.

Some parts of the duck like the wing and the drumsticks were cut into pieces and served ala roasted duck style and the breast meat was taken back to the kitchen and stir fried with some vegetables into another stir fried duck dish. So for the price of 1 peking duck, you essentially are getting duck cooked 3 ways.

  • Whole Barramundi Steamed with Soy Sauce
A classic Chinese way cooking steamed fish. The fish was fresh and was cooked really well. It was also seasoned perfectly and the flesh was flaky and tender. Really liked this dish and it was expertly cooked and tasted lovely.

  • Nyonya Seafood Curry
This was my favorite dish of the night. The curry was perfectly balanced with sweet, sour, and spicy. It was not too spicy that you could really enjoy the taste of the curry. The curry had a really nice consistency that coated your whole palate with the delicious curry. It had fish fillets, squid, prawns and some vegetables like ladies fingers and brinjal. All the seafood and vegetables were perfectly cooked, nothing was over cooked which isn't easy to do when it's an assorted mix of seafood. Really delish!

  • Seaweed Soup
The soup was the first dish that arrived and it was refreshing and yummy.

  • Fu Yong Egg Omelette
A simple dish but it was done well and tasted good. The kids loved this dish and the portion was generous enough for 6 adults and 4 children to eat.

  • Marmite Chicken
Chicken that's been coated in flour and deep fried then stir fried with marmite. It was sticky, sweet, and savory. The kids really enjoyed this as well especially my nephew.

  • Stir Fried Mix Vegatables

They also have bento set meals if you're not having a big meal with lots of people. This is individual meals that I think they are promoting for the lunch crowd.

Overall, worth a try to check this place out. Not the best Chinese restaurant in town but definitely not the worse. Some dishes were average but some were really yummy. Worth a try if you're ever in the area and are craving Chinese food.
