FOODlog #212: Christmas Dinner 2022
I'm finally writing the long overdue Christmas celebration that me and my friends had on Christmas Eve. We celebrated with a meal together at church with all our families having a lovely time of hanging out and spending Christmas together. My brother mainly settled all the arrangements for the food and man we got to have a feast!
We had roasted pork belly (siew yok), barbecue pork (char siew), and of course a lovely roasted bird but not a turkey, a HUGE chicken!
The pork dishes apparently wasn't his first choice but the cook was overbooked and we didn't manage to get one from that person but this 2nd option wasn't short of quality either. The meat was soft and tender and extremely flavorful. It was all in takeaway boxes but the pork belly was still crispy and crunchy. Really well prepared and definitely will have their food again.
The highlight of the table that night was of course the roasted chicken. It was a 2.5 kg chicken which a small turkey would average around 3-3.3 kgs. Some of my friends thought it was a turkey when they first saw it on the table which it really was that huge.
Cutting into the chicken and carving it, it was so satisfying as everything was perfectly cooked. Not overcooked and not undercooked. It was just absolutely perfect. It not only looked good, it tasted the part as well. The meat was tender and juicy and the pan drippings were so flavorful that you know they put lots of effort preparing and cooking this roasted bird.
The roasted chicken also came with a few sides. A roasted eggplant, a vegetable lasagna, some roasted vegetables, and roasted potatoes. They were all cold by the time we ate but the taste was good and the kids really enjoyed particularly the lasagna.
A super delicious meal and a wonderful time spent with the people I treasure. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas season as much as me. Now on to Chinese New Year! :D
