FOODlog #122: Clams with Mix Vegetables
Last week when my Dad came back home, my Mum cooked some delicious food for us for lunch. She cooked steamed pork belly with ginger and salted fish which I wrote about yesterday, clams with mix vegetables, and a soup dish of old cucumber with pork bones.
Every Chinese New Year we get some 'luxury' canned food items from our relatives and friends. This past year we got a can of clams which my Mum cooked with a mix of vegetables of carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and baby corn. We often eat this mix vegetable dish but this time it was extra delicious from the clams and the clam juice it came with in the can.
Unlike some canned food that is really bad like I think Italian food in a can is really terrible, Chinese food in a can is really the opposite. It's delicious and you can make a really yummy dish using these canned stuff.
The old cucumber soup is also very delicious and good on a hot and sunny day. We often have soup at home to drink as it's easy to make and very nutritious for the body. All Chinese family swear by soups as a dish that's full of good nutrients. This one she made was old cucumber and pork bones where all you need is to chuck them into a pot and add water to cover everything, season with salt and white pepper to taste and you're done.
Such a delicious meal shared with family.
