FOODlog #107: Northern Malaysian Cuisine at LunchBear
Finally got to spend time with my brother after he had covid and quarantined for 1 week then was recovering for another week. We met up over lunch at this local eatery located nearby where I live called 'Lunch Bear'.
It's a place that serves Northern Malaysia cuisine run by a young couple in their early 20s. I've been hearing some good reviews about this place from friends and finally got the chance to try it myself.
They have around 10 different dishes to choose from. I got a plate of rice and I picked a meat dish which was their 'Dendeng Daging' which is beef that's cooked with spices, chili, and dark soy sauce. It has a balance of sweet, savory, and spicy, and paired brilliantly with the white rice. The meat was tender and so flavorful, not to mention the portion was quite generous too.
My other dish I got was a side of stir fried French beans with egg. It was seasoned well and tasted delicious too. I topped my rice with their various curries and gravy. As it all mixed and was absorbed by the rice, every spoonful was a extremely satisfying.
For my drink, I got a cup of their iced milk tea which is a local favorite drink.
So total price of 2 rice meals with meat and vegetables plus 3 cups of iced milk tea came to RM20 (<5 USD) can you believe it? It's one of the cheapest meals I've had at this standard of taste and quality which is truly rare nowadays with the massive inflations happening.
A super delicious lunch and definitely extremely value for money meal to have here at 'Lunch Bear'.
