FOODlog #105: Roti Telur with Dhall and Curry
Usually after going for basketball, me and my friends go to a nearby 'mamak restaurant' for dinner. It's located about 3-5 minutes drive from the basketball court that we play at so it's very convenient and the place also serves their food very fast like within 5 minutes.
So far it's our go to spot as the place is quite clean and the food is also quite good. Last week I ordered a 'Roti Telur' which is a flour based 'roti' that has an egg cracked and wrapped in it. It's then cooked on a flat top and cooked on both sides until crispy and golden brown on the outside.
The egg inside is fluffy and the exterior of the 'roti' crispy but yet still fluffy, soft, and slightly chewy that gives it a great mouthfeel. It came with 2 dipping sauces which was a creamy 'dhall' gravy with some 'sambal' on top. 'Dhall' is a lentils and it's cooked with turmeric powder, mustard seeds, carrots, onions, and some other spices. The 'dhall' here was nice and creamy which is what I prefer compared to some other places where it's more watery. The other dipping sauce was fish curry which was also nice and pretty standard tasting. Both paired nicely with the 'roti' and it was a delicious dinner for only RM3 (<1 USD).
For my drink I ordered a can of 100 Plus which is an isotonic drink. I only ever drink 100 Plus after sports which replenishes the electrolytes in the body.
