Through reflection
Through our reflection in the mirror, we see what we look like, we know what to improve and know what to fix.
When our hair is messy, we comb it. When our face is dirty, we wash it. When our collar is not set, we set it. All these we see when we look at ourselves in the mirror.
Reflections are not only seen though through physical mirrors. We could also realize out mistakes and shortcomings when we get to observe how others are doing.
Sometimes, our peers are our very own mirrors for ourselves.
When we use these mirrors effectively, we are bound to improve. When we reflect on our own behaviors, when we reflect about the past, when we think about things that are happening in our lives, we get to realize patterns that might be needing change. We might see good things worth appreciating about ourselves. We may be able to change for the better and even help others who are going through the same patterns in life.
Through the various means of reflection, we can do better things, show more beautiful self, and many more.
Reflections shouldn't be ignored. Rather, they must be efficiently used.
In my years of teaching experience, I can only improve myself through reflection.
First, I use the mirror to check on how I look. So that my students and coemployees will find me pleasing or maybe, decent.
Second, I could see my reflection on other people and I can observe how I affect others through the use of my peer reflection.
Third, I reflect, as in think through my life, my ways, my everything and try to strategize on how to improve more and more each day.
We can do much through different reflections.
Being a dropout, I have a lot of time set for reflections, and though I don't regret dropping out, I still have reservations about what I could have done to have maximized my resources. But I also assure myself that there are a million ways on how to live meaningfully and productively.
And we can only reflect good things when we do our best in life. Otherwise, we might not show good reflections. Wholesome things.
Nowadays, what we do when we don't see mirrors would be to lock our phones and try to use the device as our mirror. We polish the screen or wipe at least to be able to see a better reflection of our faces.
And I see some of my colleagues use their camera for checking on themselves.
If I may deviate a little, we also have to be wary of mirrors that aren't honest. I mean those commercial mirrors that only say the good things. What I mean again is, those mirrors that make us more beautiful than our actual self.
But I also have mixed feelings regarding that matter. It also is a helpful thing to see ourselves in those that make us more beautiful at least. It keeps the positive vibes.
Because as they say also, whatever you see in the mirror, you have to embrace him or her with all your heart. In short we have to love ourselves first before being able to genuinely love others.
And one way to show love to ourselves would be through the various forms of reflection.
Imagine life without a way to check on ourselves.
Imagine you have no mirrors at home where you just have to make sure you have tidied yourself up.
Imagine you are in prison where you are slumped in a corner and have no way to reflect in the best state of mind. Or I may be wrong here. Jail facilities are designed supposedly for corrective measures.
Well, we can't imagine life without mirrors or ways to check on ourselves.
So we have to be grateful that we have various means of reflecting.
