Not everyone is aware with different diseases and disorders in the human body. Not everyone is aware with the possible disorders that is already in them. Not everyone that looks healthy and normal are really healthy and normal. Some people may have disorders that we usually think it is “normal”. This article will be about a certain disorder that some people are not really aware of, or they don’t believe in this kind of disorder.

I wrote this article to share with everyone what I have understand as I finished watching this documentary in Youtube entitled “What It's Like to Live with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)”. This is an interview to a person that has this rare disorder.

First, what is Dissociative Identity Disorder? It is also known as “Multiple Personality Disorder” where a person has different personalities in them that usually comes out as another person but inside their body. It is like they have their own world within the person’s body. The woman interviewed in this documentary is Encina Severa. And she explained the details of this disorder and how it affected her life.

She said that it was told to her that DID usually happen to people who have been traumatized for being abused. There, she shared a little detail about her childhood. She told Kyle (the host) that she was sexually abused by her father when she was young along with his friends. And the trauma triggered the disorder. It started in having amnesia, forgetting some details of what she has done throughout the day or what she ate o breakfast. She also remembered being troubled during his teenage years and cannot do anything about it. It’s like she is getting troubled without her consent and like she wasn’t in control of her body and actions. Her mother thought it’s normal for a teenage girl to be troubled, and she believed it too.

Not until she came to her 20s and she experienced blacking out and waking up days later in a place where she couldn’t remember how did she get there. Or worst is blacking out and waking up hours later in a middle of the street. She experienced a lot from this disorder before she was diagnosed with the disease. It was explained to her that these personalities coming out from her sub-conscious her protectors and she accepted it little by little.

She also said that her alters (personalities) usually comes out when she was having an anxiety attack or when she is feeling unsafe and uncomfortable. It is like they are her protectors indeed. She has 11 personalities, but there are only 5 that are primary or the ones that comes out often. She talked about them and named them too because they really have their own names. She has this alter who is a 3 years old girl, and who is coming out most often. This later also came out during the interview.

She said that having this disorder was a burden to her before specially when she fights against these personalities. But later on, she appreciated and realized to work with them and live with them instead of fighting against them. She used a journal so she could communicate with these personalities and she shared that these personalities have different handwritings too.

At first, I thought it only happens in movies but it really does happen in real life and there are people that struggles and live with this disorder as well. What I have learned on this documentary is that, we have to be contented with what we have and do not lose hope. Always pray and try to look on the bigger picture. We should not always let negativity run in our system. We have to at least think of the possible ways on how to cope up with everything and how we can be flexible in everything that God has given to us.

===============================

Guys, I hope you watch the documentary too, the link is above. You will learn a lot from watching it and you will probably understand these people who have this disorder and it is possible! You just don't have to see it on movies, it is in reality too and it is not as exaggerated as in the movies though. Thanks for reading!
