Hawthorn is a genus of shrubs in the rose family. There are a lot of species, the most interesting of which are White Hawthorn and Red Hawthorn.

Hawthorn grows wild along the edges of forests or fields in the plains and in the mountains among other shrubs. It is often planted as a hedge. Both species are very honey-bearing so bees like to visit the flowers, especially after rain. Nectar is found in a shallow flower although it is dried by wind and sun.

Hawthorn contains active substances with antioxidant action. The flowers, along with some essential oil, contain trimethylamine and the glycoside oxyacanthine.

The Chinese once made a fermented drink from hawthorn, and its remains were found in 9,000 year old potted plants. He is considered to have been significant in religion even then. Legend has it that Jesus' crown of thorns was made from this bush. Many other beliefs are associated with it, even myths like the one about vampires.

Hawthorn was grown in Europe, Asia, North America and the Mediterranean at the time, but today it is widespread throughout the world. It is also known as white thorn, white thorn, hawthorn, hawthorn, hawthorn, sharp thorn, thorn, reaper, hawthorn, hawthorn, bear pear.

A cure for the heart

Hawthorn contains active substances with antioxidant action. The flowers, along with some essential oil, contain trimethylamine and the glycoside oxyacanthine. The fruits contain essential oil, tannin, saponin, glycosides and fructose, as well as exceptional amounts of potassium, sodium, calcium and phosphoric acid salts.

Anyone who has problems with high blood pressure, wants to protect themselves from the dangers of high cholesterol and clogged blood vessels, and anyone who suffers from heart attacks can be treated with full confidence with hawthorn.

This plant is widely used to maintain the health of the blood system, high blood pressure, weakening of the heart muscle and cardiac arrhythmia. It is accepted as a safe and effective treatment of the early stages of heart disease, and as an effective therapy in the already advanced stages.

It is recommended after a heart attack, since it increases the blood supply to the coronary blood vessels. It promotes the activity and better nutrition of heart muscle cells. Recommendation to everyone over 50 to take hawthorn tincture occasionally.

Other applications of hawthorn:

Hawthorn is one of the plants with the strongest calming effect. It helps with fatigue, lack of energy, poor sleep, shortness of breath, dizziness, palpitations, anxiety, nervousness and tinnitus. It is also valuable in menopause.

It can be used as an aid in weight loss, because it encourages the expulsion of excess water from the body. This property makes it useful in cellulite, edema and joint diseases.

Hawthorn strengthens the connective tissue on the joints, and due to its anti-inflammatory effect, it is recommended for ulcerative colitis and digestive problems. Protects against the action of free radicals and prevents diseases of blood vessels such as arteriosclerosis. Numerous studies on hawthorn have established that it is a safe and well-tolerated plant. However, hawthorn is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Hawthorn tea:

Nutritionists state the healing properties that hawthorn tea possesses. These are:

protection of cells from damage due to its rich antioxidant composition,

supporting the work of the immune system,

lowers blood pressure,

can lower the concentration of "bad" cholesterol in the blood,

has a calming effect on the body,

improves digestion,

improves cardiovascular health.

Hawthorn tea is best known to the people for its healing effects on the heart and circulatory system. Many studies confirm that patients with heart disease respond positively after consuming hawthorn, are less tired and experience fewer symptoms such as shortness of breath and "skipping" the heartbeat.

Hawthorn can have a healing effect mostly due to dietary fiber that has a positive effect on digestion, and it also contains active plant compounds that have an antioxidant effect. These are:

Hawthorn tea - preparation:

To make hawthorn tea, follow these steps:

1. Put 1 - 2 teaspoons of dried flowers in a cup of boiling water.

2. Then cover and let stand for about 10 minutes.

3. Then strain and drink a maximum of 3 cups a day.

The taste is a combination of bitter and sour. You can season it as desired with a little honey or cinnamon.

A 2005 study by U.S. scientists argues that the minimum effective dose of hawthorn is 300 milligrams a day, and the maximum should be 500 milligrams.

It is by no means recommended to consume more than 1800 mg of hawthorn per day because then the symptoms of poisoning can appear. After 3 weeks, it is desirable to take a short break and then continue.
