This is a project that i and my team did before to promote the usage of natural products.

Considering that the face is the most important part of the outer appearance in both men and women. Cosmetic products are used for enhancing the appearance of an individual. Face cosmetics are an essential tool that helps to increase the users self confidence. Face powder is one of the cosmetics that has a high consumption rate in the past 5 years. However these products can cause a significant adverse reaction such as skin irritation and allergic reaction due to chemicals used in the product such as talc which commonly used in making paints and coatings, calcium carbonate which is commonly used in making chalk and magnesium carbonate which is commonly used in making fire extinguisher. So a lot of people are looking for a product that contains pure organic ingredients which they believe that it would be beneficial to their body.

Natural cosmetics are in trend due to several reasons which are: they are natural and free from harmful chemicals which minimizes the chance of adverse health problems, safe to use, compatible to all skin types, no side effects and nutrients provided by natural sources. Scientific studies shows that plants possess a vast, complex arsenal and phytochemical that not only calm, restore and heal but also stand up to the scrutiny of clinical trial and pharmacological testing.

That is how my team decided to make a chemical free face powder. It uses three natural ingredients which is oats, cinnamon and cocoa that is known for its good effects it made to our body.

Oats has an anti inflammatory and antioxidant features which is perfect in caring skin. It also helps undo the damage done to your skin caused by pollution, UV rays and chemicals. Owing to its saponin content oats works as a terrific skin cleanser whether you have a sensitive or dry skin it doesn't strip its natural oils. Cinnamon as a special ingredient in making this product is loaded with polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that fight free radicals. It works great in treating acne, the antibacterial properties of the spice help eliminate the bacteria that causes acne. Cocoa one of the richest sources of polyphenols, it's specially abundant in flavanols, which have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect. It also has many compounds that have antibacterial, anti-enzymatic and immune-stimulating properties that may contribute to skin's health effect.

Laboratory procedures

To extract the ingredients with a non volatile (ethanol) solvent a soxhlet extractor was used a laboratory apparatus designed for the extraction of a lipid from a solid material. It is used when the desired compound has a limited solubility in a solvent, and the impurity is insoluble in that solvent. It allows for unmonitored and unmanaged operation while efficiently recycling a small amount of solvent to dissolve a larger amount of material.

Result

To ensure the safety and effectiveness of the chemical free face powder we have it tested in a Reference laboratory in Adamson University Technology Research and Development Center (AUTRDC) it undergone to Froth test, Dragendroff's test and lead acetate test. To detect if it has impurities it was subjected to spectrophotometric analysis to make sure that it does not have any harmful effects when it is applied to a human skin.

Oily skin- the effect of the overproduction of sebum from sebaceous glands. Sebum is vital for keeping the skin healthy. It can also lead to oily skin, clogged pores and ance. Managing oily skin often requires a person making regular skin care a habit.

Anti acne- tending to prevent acne or to alleviate the symptoms of acne.
