Prom

I just finished watching another movie on Netflix, He's All That. Reminds me of a movie in the late 90s, She's All That. It was nice that Rachel Leigh Cook and Matthew Lillard were there though I was hoping that Rachel was going to be the grown up Laney Boggs. It was the movie where I first noticed the late Paul Walker.

Cannot believe that it has been 23 years when I have watched that movie. That movie was something that made me think how cool prom parties were. Can you still remember your first prom night? Being in an all girls' school made it seem impossible for some of us to have a partner. However, months before our prom, we had an interaction with an all boys' school. I actually forgot the exact term of that event but the junior and senior students had interacted with the boys. If I remember it right, I think it was one section per day. Most of my batchmates were able to get their prom dates with that interaction but not for me. It was not a big deal for me as I have decided to go to the party alone. I think we even called it "stag" back then. I do not know why but that was how we call it if we were to go without a date or a partner.

Did you had a date during your prom? It has been decades when I had my prom and I do not know how prom looks like now. Because of what I saw on some Hollywood movies, I was really excited about it even if I did not had a date during that night. Well at least I can say that I have experienced it but not to how I expected it to be. Some of my classmates were shy to dance with their partners because they do not know their dates that much to have a sweet slow dance with them. I also do not know how they picked the prom king that night since the guys were not from our school.

Even if I did not have a date that night, I was happy because I get to be with my friends. Although, thinking about it, I wonder how much the parents of my classmates have spent for the gowns and hair and make ups of their daughters that time. For me it was just the hair and make up because the gown that I have used was from my cousin's debut when she made me part of her cotillion. Before when you needed a hair and make up, you have to go to a salon but now almost a lot of people know how to glam themselves up.

But did ypu know that I have asked my partner at my cousin's cotillion dance to be my partner? Sadly, he rejected me. Ouch! LOL. What did I expect right? It was the very first time that I got rejected. It was a challenge for most of us in an all girls' school to look for a prom date. Not unless you are the hearthrob in school and you are popular in other schools or in an all boys' school. But at least I have tried to ask someone to be my date. In my senior year, I also asked another guy to be my date and of course, I still got rejected. LOL. I forgot how I first met him but he was the grandson of my grandmother's friend.

Being rejected twice made me feel like I was really ugly. I know that beauty is not measured in pounds but I felt that it was during our prom and grad ball parties. Imagine being rejected twice and let us not forget that no one even asked me to be their prom dates. That hurts.

Yes, I did say that I was ok going alone but I also wanted to feel how it was like to bring a date to those parties. Then to spend time with him after the party but not like how it ends up in some movies like getting laid. I also wanted to experience my date picking me up in our house wesring his best suit and bringing me home after. I'm.such a hopeless romantic right? LOL.

After our junior prom, I together with my friends and their dates went to a burger shop then moved to a coffee shop since their dates still want to have some time together with them. Good thing that I was not the only one who did not have a date that time so we just enjoyed each other's company. We all went home around 3AM. It was still a good way to end our prom. Can you still remember about your prom? How was it like?
