Flood Story (Igorot)

Before, there was a god called Lumawig. He had two sons. These two sons were fond of hunting. Since the world was flat back then, it was hard for them to hunt pigs and other animals. The brothers came up with an idea to bring flood to the land so that mountains would rise up and animals wouls climb up the mountain.

The brothers had set up a trap on the peaks of the mountain. The flood came and the mountains rose while the brothers were watching. Few moments went by, animals were caught in the trap and also people. However, there was one place that was not flooded and this land was called Pokis.

Lumawig found out about what his sons did and checked what was left of the world. He saw that there were two survivors in the land of Pokis and these two were siblings, a brother and sister. The siblings were cold so Lumawig asked his dog and deer to bring fire to the two. The dog and deer swam on the flood and looked for fire. Hours passed and the two animals did not return.

Lumawig went after the two animals to check what was going on. The two had troubles keeping the fire up while swimming in the water. Lumawig took the fire instead and brought it to Pokis.

When Lumawig reached Pokis, he built a big fire that would warm up the two siblings. It was so big that the water evaporated. There world was the same as before, except there are now mountains. The two siblings married and had children. Their children had childrens until the world became populated.
