I am one proud daughter!
The other day, my aunt came to our house to invite my mother to be her son's godmother in their upcoming wedding. This aunt of mine got carried away with the flashback stories, how she and her husband was able to bring their kids to school. How happy they were when each of their 4 kids graduated from college and handed over to them their diploma.
Then her story went to how my parents inspired and helped them through their journey. And the story goes like this:
One Sunday morning, Auntie Edith was out searching for someone who could lend her money because her daughter will be enrolling for college. Her money was not yet enough. She was about to go to her niece, who according to her sister, just received their monthly allowance. While she was walking to her niece's house, she saw my mother waiting for a tricycle going to the market as this was market day. It popped to her mind to share her problem and directly asked if mother could lend her at least 2k or $40 for her daughter's tuition fee. Without second thoughts, mother shared some of her budget for market to Auntie Edith. She was so touched because she know that mother was also having difficulty with finances at that time because some of my siblings were still in college and that we still don't have a regular jobs.
Auntie Edith and my parent's relationship became closer because of that incident. She said that everytime her kids would lack motivation in their studies, she would give us as her example. How my parents worked hard and helped one another just to bring us to good school. To never ever take education for granted. And how after college and even if somehow our life improved, we all still remained humble.
She said that my parents have been her constant confidante, problem listener, coach and advisor. How they made her realized that no matter how hard life is, how many problems will come along especially with finances, always PRAY and ask God's providence and guidance. That God will lead you to the right people to support you in many ways.
In their daughter's graduation, she was too excited that my parents were the first people to hear the good news. A day before the celebration, my parents were invited and were allotted the best seat; at the presidential table. Unfortunately, my parents were not able attend because that was the time when the doctor asked my father to stay at the hospital to observe his heart condition.
Auntie Edith was a bit emotional as she was reminiscing that moment. That was the last time she was able to have a great conversation with our father because he stayed in the hospital for more than a month and was not able to recover.
