He is Luke

No person I know do not gone through struggles, hardships, pains, sleepless nights, etc in their lives. We all have a fair share of those and even more as we walk through our journey in this life. Some even gave up and some are still striving to get out from the moment in their lives.

I hope that this story can inspire and make you smile.

Luke

Luke, not his real name, is a graduate of BS Accountancy in one of the reputable school in Manila. He was an average guy in school, he was not even in the dean's list but was active in almost all of the school activities. Then he became a CPA. He immediately got a job in a big accounting firm. There, he realized that what he learned from school is not enough, he needs to study more. So he joined groups, attended seminars, sacrificed some family gatherings just to fully equip himself. Some of his batch mates used to bully him for being a kill joy because many times he would say NO to their escapades and night outs.

Six (6) months later, his sacrifices were starting to pay-off; he got promoted to be a team leader. A year after, he became one of the youngest managers. Then he told himself, I am ready to face the real world and so he resigned. He joined a real estate development company and he was one of the pioneers in the audit department. He was assigned to establish the policies and procedures of each department, audit the financials, even investigate fraud and many other matters that needs further audit.

Young Luke never stopped learning, he acquired additional licenses and show excellence in his job. He gained his boss' trust and confidence that they let him lead the department and hire people for his team. It was overwhelming at first but he learned to adjust and carry on. Being the head of the department, there were struggles. There were misconceptions about being an auditor, they consider his team as police who find faults and would recommend termination. But he proved them wrong.

However, he could not stand the 'palakasan system'. There were big names in the company that they had proven to be stealing, reported them to the chairman but it's as if there reports were useless. Sad part is, every year there were retrenchment from different departments due to cost cutting, many average employee got affected but those big names were still there and lurking with their power.

Luke gave up, he resigned, he wanted to start a new. He did not look for a job immediately. He travelled alone, spent more quality time with his family especially make-up with his grandma who took care of them since they were kids. After 3 months, a colleague in a training center where he is affiliated, referred him to the best real estate developer company in the country. He was hired as a Chief Audit Executive where he leads 5 departments. In his first year, he was able to submit reports about fraud. The chairman could not believe that this actually exists and so they terminate big names of the company. They have uncovered a lot of anomalies. The chairman was so thankful of him.

Luke is unstoppable, his integrity and character is never a question, he's quite a strict boss but he generously share his knowledge to his peers, he's a coach and a mentor, he loves his family so much and he no longer afraid to drive his own motorcycle because recently, he had been sharing photos of him and his new baby.

How do I know so much about Luke? Because he is a friend, an inspiration and my former boss and my Yuri's ninong. I just miss talking to him.
