This could have been the first school year when my daughter could participate in Christmas programs not just limited in their classroom but also the entire school. Although there are other ways to celebrate it and the other parents are even willing to have at least a party outside school but then again new protocol has been issued that NO GATHERING IS ALLOWED.
Aw, the excitement of the exchange gifts and get together is also being put on hold. My daughter once asked me, Mommy will we wear red again for the party because when we were in daycare that was our theme and it's hard to answer that. She also missed her classmates and she wants to at least meet them even for just a while. She tells stories about each of them and how some particular classmates are too naughty and noisy while others are just quiet.
Kids these days are deprived of these small but treasured moments. They should be all enjoying their childhood playing and creating memories together but now there playground is limited. Sometimes they got bored in the four corners of the house and that only two of them are playmates.
So I just bring them to the beach and wait if their playmates will also go there to play with. Sometimes they got lucky but most of the time just the three of us are playing. I pity them because whenever their playmates arrived, they are too excited and even shouting with joy.
Every Christmas my sister would have a small gift giving here in our house, distributing slippers and some goodies for the old and young ones here in our community. But since all the pandemic scare seem not to have a holiday break, the yearly practice will not happen this time. We just have decided to have a picnic by the beach after the mass. As much as we want to continue since there is zero case here in our place, but protocols are protocols and we must abide.
Our barangay feast will not be celebrated also this year like the usual norm; no basketball, no pageants, no barangay night and all. But one thing is for sure, there will be a mass in our barangay. That's the only gathering allowed but with strict compliance with the social distancing and wearing of mask.
We may not have all the gatherings that we used to enjoy
We may not see all our loved ones this year
We may not have the gift giving
A lot of things we will surely miss this year's celebration
But we can always find ways to enjoy
And we will surely make this year's celebration a more special, a more intimate one with the true reason for the season.
May we all feel the true spirit of Christmas
Filled with hope and love.
